Jerwood Drawing Prize Announcement

We are delighted that Jessie Brennan has been awarded the 2nd prize of £3,000 for her 5 metre drawing 'The Cut' at the annual Jerwood Drawing Prize Competition.

There were nearly 3,500 entries, out of which 50 were shortlisted. Judges were Iwona Blazwick, Director, Whitechapel Gallery; Tim Marlow, White Cube; and Rachel Whiteread, artist.

'The Cut' is a culmination of an artist project about the Lea River Navigation Canal commissioned by SPACE. Her work ‘explores the social history of the area. Part of an ongoing investigation into our psychological and physical interpretation of place and time, it explores the nature of local mythologies constructed by our collective memory.’
